Yes, yes and yes. But... as one of my teachers, Venerable Robina told me “you can wake up over n over my darling, but your psychology might still take years to clean up”. It was that moment that I found an understanding of kamma, having rejected the traditional teachings on it. I wonder what kamma AI will experience?
This is very well written and I am very impressed by how much you understand Nietzsche. Since his philosophy emphasizes individual autonomy, self-overcoming, creation of own values, authenticity, etc. It is very likely that the modern Nietzsche would say that gurus are dead. And probably encourage skepticism towards any guru. Much like Watts tried to avoid becoming a guru himself.
I am so delighted to read your thoughts on Nietzsche. He offers such valuable and challenging insights. My husband writes on Nietzsche in his Substack "Provocations", and I found such resonance in your thoughts. Last week he offered a critique on Purpose, and today's post explored one of the similarities between Nietzsche's philosophy and the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism. It perhaps offers a response to your post.
Thank you for writing. I don't always understand it, but it's always of interest. You're my second favourite Substacker! :)
Zen notwithstanding, I can see some people are clearly more spiritually developed than me, and I can't imagine there's something wrong in learning from them.
Thank you Ruben. Would you classify Alan Watts as a High or Low guru? He was instrumental in connecting western thought with eastern practice, and yet he was a philandering drunk who died from alcohol.
Watts was a philandering drunk. Chogyam Trungpa slept with 16 year olds, also alcoholic. Osho was an impotent perve who loved nitrous. I don’t think it necessarily detracts from some beautiful teachings. Beethoven apparently smelt so bad and was so bad tempered that nobody would go near him. But I still think the 9th Symphony is sublime. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

Thanks Gaston!

Of course not :)

I like Mr. Watts :)
